The film stars Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman as Claire and Mike Sardina, a couple from Milwaukee who perform as a tribute to Neil Diamond and Patsy Cline under the name Lightning & Thunder. The movie is inspired by a documentary made about them in 2008.
Kate Hudson is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. She was previously nominated for this award in 2021 for her work in Music. Hudson first won a Golden Globe in 2001, receiving the award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Almost Famous.
This year, she’s up for awards against Cynthia Erivo for her work in Wicked: For Good, Emma Stone for Bugonia, Amanda Seyfried for The Testament of Ann Lee, Chase Infiniti for One Battle After Another, and Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
Hugh Jackman, after attending the Milwaukee premiere of Song Sung Blue, shared his praise for Taylor Hudson on Instagram. He posted a photo of them both wearing Wisconsin Badgers crewnecks – a nod to a promotional look from the movie – and wrote, “This is so richly deserved! I’m so proud of you and our film.”
