Kat Dennings Reveals the Impact of Her Sex and the City Role As Child Actor: ‘What a Weird Show’

Kat Dennings reflects on her early acting days as a child star, reminiscing about a significant part she played during her youth.

Denning made her debut on the popular show “Sex and the City” when she was just 14 years old. During a recent interview on The View, the actress from “2 Broke Girls looked back at the influence of that role while promoting her new sitcom, “Shifting Gears”, which comes almost 15 years after her initial appearance in the project.

Back then, Dennings admitted she hadn’t seen the classic series earlier as her family didn’t have cable TV subscription. She found the title of the series strange during the audition process, but still accepted the role. It wasn’t until after the audition that she realized it was a television show, upon seeing a massive billboard about the show covering an entire building on her way back.

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, shared an amusing story about his encounter with “Sex and the City”. As a child, he was forbidden from watching it and his family didn’t have cable. So, when he auditioned for the show, he found the concept strange and the title peculiar. On his way home on the train, he noticed a large billboard advertising Sex and the City, realizing then what the show was all about.

In the third season episode titled “Hot Child in the City,” Denning portrayed the character Jenny Brier on the show. Upon reflection, she admitted that the role didn’t anticipate garnering such widespread attention and recognition. She recalls being taken aback when, following the episode’s airing, people from her hometown in Pennsylvania recognized her as Jenny Brier, frequently offering her discounts.

Kat Dennings now stars in the father-daughter comedy series, Shifting Gears on Hulu.
