Kanye West Reveals He ‘Was Drinking’ When He ‘Put Up the DEFCON Tweet’; Says Alcohol Turned Him ‘Grey’

As a long-time follower of Kanye West‘s musical and personal journey, I find myself both intrigued and slightly exasperated by his recent revelations and actions. On one hand, it’s refreshing to see him address controversial moments from his past, like the infamous VMA incident and the antisemitic comments, with a degree of self-awareness. However, the recurring theme of alcohol as an excuse for his behavior is becoming a bit predictable.

Kanye West is making efforts to clarify his controversial remarks about antisemitism that were made in October 2022, sparking widespread anger among fans and others. During an appearance on conservative commentator Candace Owens’ podcast, Ye discussed the incident and explained his actions when he posted those comments on X (previously known as Twitter).

“On a podcast, Kanye West, also known as Donda, explained that he was drinking Hennessy when he posted the DEFCON tweet. He added, ‘Hennessy makes us act strangely, awakening our inner demons.’ The discussion, filled with revealing insights, was recorded in 2022 but just recently released. Kanye’s anti-Semitic comments on the platform led to lost brand partnerships, a Twitter suspension, and significant public criticism.”

Later on, Owens inquired about why this specific detail hadn’t been shared with the public before, to which he explained that he wished to avoid having his words discredited because they were still truthful to him. This reasoning is reminiscent of the response given by a rapper during the widely discussed VMAs incident back in 2009. During the awards ceremony, Kanye West infamously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Music Video, claiming that Beyoncé should have won instead.

As a longtime fan of Taylor Swift and a follower of pop culture events, I can’t help but reflect on the infamous encounter between Taylor Swift and Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Being a music enthusiast myself, I often find myself thinking about how artists handle controversial situations and the impact they have on their careers.

Recently, Kanye West unveiled his long-anticipated joint project with Ty Dolla Sign titled “Vultures 2”. This album tackles a wide range of themes, with the complexities of Kim and Kanye’s divorce and shared parenting being one of its main focuses.
