Kanye West discusses the root cause of his well-known feud with Jay-Z, stating that it was primarily due to differences in political views. He believes that a specific verse by Jay-Z (alias Shawn Carter) on their joint song “Jail” intensified their disagreements.
On Twitter, dated April 20th (and since deleted), Kanye West, aged 47, also known as the Bully rapper, claimed that his ongoing dispute with Carter was rekindled during their collaboration for the song “Jail” on his 2021 album, Donda.
He brought up a disagreement about a line in Carter’s rap, which was a sharp jab at West’s frequently worn ‘Make America Great Again’ hat, symbolizing his well-known backing of President Donald Trump. In the “Jail” verse, Carter rapped, “I told him to stop wearing that red cap, we’re leaving home.
According to West, Carter (presumably Kanye West referring to Jay-Z) warned him during the making of the song that he had to either keep the line criticizing the red hat or remove Jay-Z’s contribution from the song entirely. On Twitter, West wrote: “I can’t believe Jay Z made me take my ‘no red hat’ line off Jail because it hurt him so bad. We argued about it and he said either keep that line or lose my verse. Wearing the red hat was one of the most visible instances where I went against what was expected.
West implied that the situation served as an emotional catalyst and suggested feelings of deception, going so far as to question whether Carter was forced to include that particular line in the song. He further asked, “Don’t you think he was told to say it?
Lately, Kanye West made insensitive remarks about his ex-partner Beyonce’s twins, Rumi and Sir, in another public outburst on social media, casting doubt on their intelligence. In response, Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, calmly but firmly addressed the issue with a humorous Instagram post.
Following the criticism, Kanye West issued a semi-apology on social media, expressing remorse in hindsight and reiterating his ongoing affection for Jay-Z.
