Kaitlyn Dever Was Supposed to Play THIS Role in The Last of Us Before Getting Finalized as Abby; Actor Reveals if She Auditioned

In an open discussion, Kaitlyn Dever shared insights on her part in the forthcoming season of The Last of Us. It turns out that she was close to being selected for the role of Ellie, but eventually, Bella Ramsey landed the part.

During a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Dever shared that she found out about the video game which inspired the series around two years before its release. Later on, Neil Druckmann approached her with an offer to star in the main role, alongside Pedro Pascal. Unfortunately, that opportunity didn’t materialize.

To Dever’s astonishment, it was proposed that the character of Abby, portrayed by the actress, be not only a soldier seeking revenge in the series but also its main protagonist.

To the media, the young star openly shared, “I didn’t go through an audition process. Instead, I was meeting with Neil Druckmann frequently at Naughty Dog. He would demonstrate the game creation process and unintentionally reveal spoilers for the game that wouldn’t be released for years; it has been a challenging 10-year journey, I must admit.

She continued by saying, “I’ve always considered it as something deeply connected to my father, a pastime we shared. For a brief period, I discussed the possibility of portraying Ellie with Neil. However, in the world of filmmaking, that opportunity seemed to be on hold for a while.

As a devoted admirer, I couldn’t help but heap praise upon Ramsey for her outstanding performance. She truly brought the role to life magnificently. In tandem with Pedro Pascal, Bella sparked an enchanting chemistry during the first season that left us all spellbound.

Additionally, the actress stated that it seemed as though “this role was destined for me, even if it manifested differently, which I found quite exhilarating.

The Last of Us is set to release on April 13.
