Actress Kaitlyn Dever is making her debut in HBO’s “The Last of Us” portraying Abby Anderson, a character who battles not only infected clickers but also Ellie. However, it appears that after this role, she has bigger ambitions. As reported by Deadline, Dever will join the cast for Legendary’s continuation of the Monsterverse, following “Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire.” While Godzilla and Kong have always been the main attractions in these films, along with characters like Mothra, the human cast members are equally impressive, and Dever will be part of this distinguished group.
This list encompasses actor Matthew Modine from Stranger Things and, as Deadline has recently disclosed, Alycia Debnam-Carey of Fear the Walking Dead. Furthermore, Sam Neill is also set to appear in the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong film. The details about their roles are not yet revealed.
Devon boasts a growing body of cinematic work, such as movies like “Booksmart” and “No One Will Save You”, along with TV appearances in “Dopesick” and “Unbelievable”. Notably, she also starred in 142 episodes of the Tim Allen series “Last Man Standing”. It’s interesting to note that this show ran for as many seasons as “Home Improvement”, but it often received less attention. Quite peculiar, isn’t it?
Absolutely, she will portray Abby in “The Last of Us” season two coming up this year, a character who shares the lead role with controversy in the second Naughty Dog video game. For those yet to play the game, Abby is one of the two main characters, controlling her for approximately half the gameplay time, and is at odds with Ellie and Joel. Following her solo performance in the alien invasion movie “No One Will Save You,” Dever seems well-equipped to grapple with some titanic challenges.
In the cast of “Godzilla X Kong,” we have Jack O’Connell stepping into the role of Dever’s brother, while Matthew Modine from “Stranger Things” has also joined the team for the follow-up film. As of now, the specific role Modine will play in the sequel remains undisclosed.
Additionally, Dan Stevens will reprise his role as “Trapper” and Delroy Lindo will also star.
Despite not having a confirmed title for the upcoming film (a sequel to the 2024’s top 10 box office hit), we know that Adam Wingard won’t be back as director. Instead, Grant Sputore will take over directing duties based on a script penned by Dave Callaham. No release date has been announced as of now.
