At Jump Festa 2026, it was announced that the anime ‘Kaiju No. 8’ will receive a final story arc, and a new short featuring Gen Narumi will also be released.
A new trailer and preview image have given fans their first glimpse of what’s to come. The animation will be handled by Studio Production I.G, and Studio Khara is once again designing the creatures. The anime has aired 23 episodes so far, originally between April 13, 2024, and September 27, 2025.
Get ready for the epic conclusion of Kaiju No. 8! The trailer for the final chapter is now available. Plus, keep an eye out for updates on the series and a brand new short animation called “Narumi’s Week at Work”!

Naoya Matsumoto’s manga series, Kaiju No. 8, launched on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in July 2020. The story wrapped up in July 2024 with its 129th chapter and is now available in 16 collected volumes.
Viz Media releases the series in English. The story centers around Kafka, who has always dreamed of joining the Japan Defense Force and fighting alongside his childhood friend, Mina. While Mina is a captain fighting monsters (kaiju), Kafka is left cleaning up the aftermath of those battles. When a new rule change gives him a chance to join the Defense Force, he discovers a problem: he’s secretly been registered as a kaiju himself, known as Kaiju No. 8.

As a long-time fan, I’m really thrilled with how Shin Godzilla wrapped up both the anime and manga stories with this final arc and the Gen Narumi short. Knowing that Production I.G and Studio Khara were back handling the animation gives me confidence we’ll continue to see incredible visuals and fantastic monster designs – they really delivered!
