Blake Lively’s lawyers have strongly criticized Justin Baldoni’s legal team for transforming a serious court case into tabloid fodder, with the intention of selling access to Lively’s testimony during the It Ends With Us legal dispute. A spokesperson for the actress has issued a statement expressing disapproval towards Baldoni and his team for this controversial move.
The representative criticized Steve Sarowitz, the co-founder of Wayfarer Studios who also plays a role in Jane the Virgin, as well as their entire legal team, for making light of the situation by treating the case as if it were a joke.
It was suggested by the representative that they thought about offering tickets for viewing Blake Lively’s court deposition at Madison Square Garden, a well-known concert venue. However, they emphasized that this situation is far from being a spectacle like Barnum & Bailey’s Circus, as stated in their declaration.
The representative also alleges that Baldoni’s group has been using public platforms to intimidate, bully, shame, and assault women’s rights. Specifically, they have recently attempted to overturn a significant California law for victims, labeling it as unconstitutional.
Additionally, it highlighted the contradictory behavior of individuals who’ve long been portrayed as female advocates in their professions, only to later reveal their true intentions. The representative was particularly critical of their choice to issue a subpoena to Lively’s friend and internationally renowned pop star Taylor Swift.
The rep portrayed Swift as a woman who “has lent a voice to millions across the globe.” Despite not being involved in the movie, she became entangled in the case by Baldoni and his crew. They claimed that Lively exploited her relationship with Swift to bully and seize creative control on set.
On May 9th, the spokesperson for the Grammy-winning artist finally spoke up regarding her involvement with the film “It Ends With Us”. Contrary to speculation, Taylor Swift did not visit the set of this movie and had no role in any casting or creative decisions concerning it. Her hit song, My Tears Ricochet, was merely used in the film.
Lively affirmed her intention to testify in the case, prompting a sarcastic response from Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman. He jokingly suggested, “Why not make it a spectacle? Conduct the deposition at Madison Square Garden, sell tickets or broadcast it, and donate all proceeds to organizations supporting victims of domestic abuse,” he said to PEOPLE.
