Justin Baldoni has chosen not to attend Scarlett Johansson’s film “Eleanor the Great” premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Interestingly, his production company, Wayfarer Productions, is backing Johansson’s directorial debut. The intriguing move by Baldoni, star of Jane the Virgin, arises in the midst of his ongoing legal dispute with Blake Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds.
Regardless of his absence, the studio intends to promote this movie vigorously and will maintain a presence at the festival to back the actors and filmmakers, as stated by the Daily Mail. Lately, there have been speculations that Johansson, who used to be Reynolds’ spouse, might get overshadowed due to the attention surrounding the high-profile legal dispute.
Currently, Lively is actively publicizing her new film titled “Another Simple Favor.” This movie seems to be competing with “Eleanor the Great” in terms of popularity. Therefore, it was unexpected when Baldoni decided not to participate in the promotional event for this project.
Additionally, Baldoni holds the role of executive producer for the upcoming movie that will debut at the international film festival on May 20th. However, his partnership with his It Ends With Us co-star turned sour when the former Gossip Girl actor filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him in December 2024, initiating a legal dispute between them.
Additionally, she leveled charges against him involving violations of privacy, inappropriate conduct at work, and starting a malicious online reputation attack on her, among other allegations. Consequently, the director of Five Feet Apart retaliated with a $400 million counterclaim, charging her with extortion and slander.
Recently, well-known lawyer Lisa Bloom shared with the Daily Mail that this ongoing legal dispute might impact Scarlett Johansson’s upcoming directorial project as Black Widow.
She asserted that the outcome of the movie produced by Baldoni – either its success or its failure – will carry significant weight in court proceedings. If the film underperforms, Baldoni might try to pin the blame on Lively; however, if it thrives, such success could contradict his claim that Lively had negatively impacted his Hollywood career.
Moreover, Scarlett Johansson and other high-profile actors linked with the movie are likely to be summoned for testimony during the Lively-Baldwin trial, as stated by Bloom.
