Justin Baldoni Alleges Blake Lively Tried to “Trap” Him by Rejecting Body Doubles in Newly Released Texts

Recently released text messages obtained by Us Weekly show that Justin Baldoni alleges Blake Lively attempted to sabotage him on the set of their 2024 film, It Ends With Us.

According to reports, messages reveal Baldoni felt uneasy about filming intimate scenes with Lively without someone to stand in for her.

Documents submitted to the court by Blake Lively’s agency, WME, on January 5th reveal conversations from December 30, 2023, between actor Justin Baldoni, 41, and his former agent at WME, Danny Greenberg. Baldoni, who both directed and acted alongside Lively, 38, in the movie, described a difficult moment that happened while filming.

Baldoni shared that he’d had a difficult week, explaining that Lively had personally invited him to her home for a private meeting. He also stated that she insisted on performing intimate scenes herself, rather than using a stand-in.

Honestly, this whole situation with the actress is really frustrating me as a film fan. She’s flat-out refusing a body double, and now Sony and one of the producers are scrambling to try and accommodate her. It feels like a setup – they’re letting her insist on something that’s going to cause problems down the line, and I’m worried about how it’ll all play out on screen.

Baldoni also expressed frustration with Lively’s impact on the project. In his messages, he stated that she had dismissed all of his storyboards for intimate scenes and was pushing to keep the characters fully clothed during a key love scene, which he felt contradicted the source material. He described the situation as chaotic and exhausting, noting that he was struggling to remain positive while dealing with an actress who was effectively changing the script and directorial vision.

Thomas Canestraro, who served as Alec Baldwin’s body double on the film It Ends With Us, told the Daily Mail in June 2025 that he experienced a lot of tension and awkwardness while on set.

In December 2024, Lively took legal action against Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios. She alleges she experienced s harassment, faced retaliation, and was subjected to efforts to harm her professional standing.

Baldoni has refuted all accusations and responded with a $400 million lawsuit of his own, alleging civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy. He also included Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and her publicist, Leslie Sloane, in the suit. However, a judge dismissed Baldoni’s countersuit in June 2025. Lively’s initial case is scheduled to go to trial in New York City in March.

Baldoni’s messages revealed he was trying hard to keep Lively happy during filming. He wrote that he’d gone through the script to give her almost everything she asked for, just to maintain peace, but admitted it was a difficult experience. Later, he added that he was focusing on staying positive and giving her what she wanted to complete the project, but worried she was damaging her own reputation and that Warren Zavala, her agent, needed to be aware of it.

He predicted disagreements about creative choices would probably keep happening during the editing process. He explained, “The biggest challenges will come during editing because I don’t think I’ll be able to satisfy all of her requests, and I expect that to cause problems.”

Five days after exchanging texts, Lively—who also produced the film—met with the others in person on January 4, 2024. Those present included Baldoni, Black, Reynolds, Sony executive Ange Gianetti, producer Alex Saks, and Jamey Heath, the CEO of Wayfarer Studios. Both sides involved have presented different versions of what was discussed during the meeting, according to legal documents.

Recently released text messages offer a unique look at the difficulties faced while making It Ends With Us. They show how disagreements and personal issues affected the creative process during filming.
