As a dedicated follower of Chrisley Knows Best, I have been closely watching the legal proceedings involving Julie and Todd Chrisley’s tax evasion and fraud case. It is heartening to see that justice seems to be prevailing for Julie, whose initial sentence was overturned due to insufficient evidence. The delay in her sentencing is understandably frustrating, but she remains hopeful and optimistic about the future.
Julie Chrisley, an actress on Chrisley Knows Best, is optimistic about better days ahead as her new sentencing date approaches. Currently, her initial seven-year sentence is being reevaluated due to a legal flaw identified by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Meanwhile, her husband, Todd Chrisley, remains set to serve a minimum of ten years in prison.
Julie Chrisley receives a new resentencing date
Chrisley Knows Best is set to go back to court in Atlanta on September 25th for a fresh sentencing. A judge recently overturned Julie’s seven-year prison term for tax fraud and evasion, based on her persuasive argument that the evidence presented was not enough.
What are Julie and Todd convicted of?
In 2019, Julie and her husband Todd Chrisley were first accused of financial misdeeds along with their accountant. However, in 2022, they were convicted for attempting to defraud banks out of over $30 million through false loans and tax evasion. After receiving their individual sentences, the couple submitted appeals to the court, claiming that their fame had led to an unfair judgement against them.
In June 2024, the appellate court overturned Julie Chrisley’s conviction due to insufficient evidence supporting her original sentence. However, Todd Chrisley’s 12-year sentence was deemed appropriate by the same court. Despite not actively participating in her husband’s fraudulent schemes initially, Julie Chrisley remains accountable for her role in the deception.
After being reviewed by higher courts, Julie Chrisley’s original sentence has been modified. As reported by Fox 5, she is scheduled to be back in a federal court in Atlanta in September 2024 for the announcement of her revised punishment.
Savannah Chrisley prepares for her mother’s homecoming
In an interview with RadarOnline, Chrisley family lawyer Jay Surgent shared that Julie Chrisley may be eligible for release from prison as early as next spring or summer. Her sentence was reduced by ten months in 2023 because of her good behavior while incarcerated. Based on this, it seems possible that the reduction could amount to an additional 1 to 2 years off her term.
In a recent episode of her podcast Unlocked, Savannah Chrisley, Todd and Julie’s daughter, shared that she was beginning to prepare for her mother’s return home.
