As a dedicated follower of Julianne Hough‘s career and a fan of her inspiring journey, I find her story about working with Cher in Burlesque truly heartwarming. It’s fascinating to see how such a legendary actress like Cher could not only elevate the film but also provide emotional support to a young artist like Julianne during challenging moments.
Julianne Hough recently opened up about her time working alongside iconic actress Cher in their 2010 musical movie, Burlesque. In this production, Hough took on the role of Georgia, while Cher brought Tess Scali to life. Furthermore, Hough shared insights into how Cher encouraged her during the filming of a challenging scene. Dive deeper to uncover more!
Julianne Hough recently made an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she shared delightful recollections of working alongside Cher in the movie Burlesque. The film tells the story of Ali Marilyn Rose (played by Christina Aguilera), a hopeful performer who relocates to Los Angeles and takes a position at a burlesque club owned by Tess Scali, a tough-minded proprietor portrayed by Cher.
In the process of shooting intense scenes, Hough found herself struggling to shed tears, repeatedly attempting but feeling drained. Yet, during this challenging period, Cher offered words of encouragement, affirming Hough’s worthiness to be on set. This boosted her self-assurance significantly.
In her recollection, the actress from Footloose mentioned that during filming, her character Georgia was shown vomiting in a bathroom after discovering she was pregnant. She shared that it was her initial movie role, and she had been crying repeatedly during takes, one after another.
When it was her turn to appear on camera during Dancing With the Stars, the former contestant admitted she was unsure about crying on cue since no one had informed her that it wasn’t necessary until her take. Hough further explained that Cher unexpectedly visited her in the bathroom, offering words of encouragement by saying, “I just want you to know that you belong here, and you are incredibly talented.”
The actress went on discussing the scene, mentioning that Cher picked up on her jitters. Being perceived and empathized with by Cher, as portrayed by the Zookeeper actress, was such a comfort that it brought her to tears. She shared that Cher then signaled the crew to begin filming, saying, “Alright, let’s get rolling.” Julianne Hough jokingly commented, “I’m not sure if she genuinely meant that or if she knew how to make me feel comfortable for those tears – it was quite endearing.”
Currently, you can watch Steven Antin’s Burlesque on Netflix. This film stars the likes of Christina Aguilera, Cam Gigandet, Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci, Eric Dane, Peter Gallagher, and Glynn Turman, alongside several other talented actors.
