Actress Julia Louis Dreyfus has publicly endorsed Kamala Harris during the current presidential race. The resemblance between Dreyfus’ character Vice President Selina Meyers in the show Veep and Senator Harris has caught the Democrats’ attention, as they argue that the role mirrors aspects of Harris’ own political career.

In a chat with The Times of London, the Seinfeld actress expressed her intention to actively participate in the current Vice President’s election campaigns. When queried about endorsing Kamala Harris, the actress from Thunderbolt said, “Yes, I likely will.”

In a parallel vein, the TV series Veep, starring Louis Dreyfus, delivers fictional political commentary. The story revolves around a character named Selina Meyers, who ascends to the presidency after serving as Vice President. In a nutshell, the show’s plot follows Selina as she navigates through political crises while managing both her public and private life.

Speaking about her role as vice president, the comedian disclosed, “We portrayed that authenticity for laughs.”

She mentioned that there’s an episode where a character proposes Selina beginning her speech with ‘As a woman’, to which she responded, “I can’t relate as a woman! It mustn’t be known! Men dislike it, and women who dislike other women dislike it too, which I believe is most women.” We utilized this for many discussion points.

Veep’s sitcom has earned a total of 17 Emmy Awards, six of which went to Julia Louis Dreyfus for her outstanding performance. Despite some viewers seeing parallels between Dreyfus’ character, Meyers, and Kamala Harris, the show’s creator, Armando Iannucci, clarified that the role was not created with Harris in mind.
