Julia Garner Admits She Didn’t Know Shalla-Bal From Marvel Comics: ‘It’s Surfing Around Space’

Julia Garner, for the first time, is venturing into the realm of superheroes. Although thrilled to portray another incarnation of Silver Surfer, the actress confessed that she was initially unfamiliar with Shalla-Bal. Her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut will take place in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Julia Garner shared that she isn’t well-versed in the main heroes from Marvel and DC comic books. Additionally, she expressed amazement upon receiving the opportunity to play Shalla-Bal.

The actress from Apartment 7A expressed that she wasn’t aware of Shalla-Bal, which is an alternate version of the Silver Surfer that differs from the common perception of the character.

Continuing her conversation with the press, Julia Garner remarked that one of her favorite aspects of the comics is when the characters are “floating through space in the movies, it has an amazing visual appeal. I can’t wait to see what director Matt Shakman and Marvel will create with this stunning cosmic scene.

In another engaging part of the discussion, the actress who starred in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For stated her delight about expanding her acting career into the superhero film genre.

In conversation about the character she plays as Silver Surfer, Julia Garner mentioned that her role is that of Galactus’ herald. However, it’s unclear where exactly her allegiance lies.

For those not familiar, Shalla-Bal is fond of Norrin Radd, also known as the original Silver Surfer, a male character debuted to audiences in the 2007 movie “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

In the past, the role of the Silver Surfer was portrayed by an esteemed comic book artist named Doug Jones.

In the upcoming movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” we have Ralph Ineson taking on the role of Galactus, Pedro Pascal portraying Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby cast as Susan Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach stepping into the character of The Thing.
