Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Regrets Overlooking Megumi’s Sister Tsumiki; Says THIS

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for manga and anime, I have been following Jujutsu Kaisen with great interest. The series has captured my heart with its intricate characters and compelling storyline. However, as a fan and someone who values well-developed stories, I cannot help but feel disappointed in the lack of exploration into Megumi Fushiguro’s older sister, Tsumiki.

Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga is dealing with growing feelings of sadness as the storyline progresses towards the Shinjuku Showdown arc, where he faces off against Sukuna. With a vast cast and numerous interwoven plots, the series struggles to give sufficient attention to every character and storyline, particularly when one is expected to have more significance than previously shown.

Megumi, originally intended to be the leading character in Jujutsu Kaisen manga, later turned out to be underdeveloped according to Gege Akutami, the series creator. He admitted regretfully that Tsumiki’s backstory had not been adequately explored, resulting in a missed opportunity.

Gege Akutami’s big regret about Megumi’s sister

Megumi, originally intended to be the main character in Jujutsu Kaisen according to creator Gege Akutami, has had his family members introduced in the series. Among them is his sister, Tsumiki, whom Megumi tried to protect during the Culling Game storyline. However, Akutami regretted later that he didn’t have enough space to develop Tsumiki’s backstory fully and make her a more complex character.

Akutami admitted that he didn’t have enough data to create a rich backstory for Tsumiki, resulting in an unsatisfying portrayal when it came to comparing the essential elements of Megumi’s and Tsumiki’s characters.

“I regret not arranging a single encounter between Itadori and Tsumiki earlier in the story. From Itadori’s point of view, which is shared by the readers, it would have been beneficial to understand Tsumiki’s perspective before progressing further. This is an aspect worth reconsidering.”

I, as a lifestyle expert, would put it this way: Tsumiki is a character who hasn’t received much limelight in the story beyond a brief mention in Megumi’s backstory. During the initial stages of the manga, she spends an extensive period in a coma. Unfortunately, I regret to say that I, the creator Akutami, didn’t fully explore Tsumiki’s character as much as I could have during that time.

A brief about Tsumiki Fushiguro

Tsumiki Fushiguro is Megumi Fushiguro’s elder step-sister and Toji Fushiguro’s step-daughter. Unbeknownst to her, Kenjaku selected Tsumiki as a contender in the Culling Game and transformed her into Yorozu’s embodiment.

Tsumiki is a young girl with brown eyes and brown hair. She usually ties her long hair into a ponytail, leaving two strands of bangs on either side of her face. During her middle school years, she wore the standard uniform: a tan jacket with black trim over a white blouse and red tie, paired with a navy skirt, black stockings, and black shoes. At times, Tsumiki is seen wearing a light-colored turtleneck beneath a pink cardigan.

Tsumiki was a loving step-sister toward Megumi, frequently reprimanding him for engaging in numerous brawls. Following the disappearance of their parents, Tsumiki assumed the role of caretaker and managed all household chores. Devoid of magical powers as a non-sorcerer, her life took an unexpected turn when Kenjaku transformed her brain into that of a sorcerer’s, granting her the fortitude to become Yorozu’s vessel.
