Josh Hutcherson recently discussed the challenges he faced after finding fame with “The Hunger Games.” In an interview on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s “Dinner’s On Me” podcast, and as reported by Variety, he explained how easily things came to him early in his career, and how much more difficult things became once the movie series concluded.
Hutcherson recalls having a remarkably easy start to his career as a young actor. He says he only experienced success and never faced rejection.
His life shifted after completing the “Hunger Games” films, despite the series initially promising a stable, lasting career. He explained that being involved in big movies with famous actors like Jennifer Lawrence and Philip Seymour Hoffman can create a false sense of security, as the initial buzz and attention can quickly fade.
He described a new experience he had in his mid-20s: feeling genuinely disappointed, like he was failing, and facing rejection. He realized that unlike before, opportunities weren’t always coming his way – sometimes he didn’t get calls, offers, or successful auditions. He’d been used to booking jobs, or at least feeling positive about getting them, ever since he was nine years old, so this felt very different.
Josh Hutcherson first became known for playing Peeta in “The Hunger Games” in 2012, when he was 18 years old, and he continued in the role until 2015. Since then, he’s worked on projects like “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” “The Beekeeper,” and the HBO series “I Love L.A.”
