Josh Hutcherson, who gained fame as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games series, has expressed excitement about revisiting the dystopian world. Yet, he suggests that the final decision rests with author Suzanne Collins, suggesting that if a new book emerges from her pen, it might open up opportunities for his return.
At the Dream It Con in Paris, Hutcherson voiced his enthusiasm over potentially re-embodying his character.
He expressed his eagerness to reprise the role of Peeta once more. He found the tale simply captivating. In his opinion, Peeta is an exceptional character to portray. His curiosity piqued as he wondered about the events that unfolded for Peeta and his family after the story concluded, hoping to gain insights into the world’s evolution and their journey to that point. However, if Suzanne Collins decides to write another book, he’d be ready and eager to join.
Hutcherson’s remarks emerge as Collins readies the publication of “Sunrise on the Reaping,” the second prequel novel in the series, following “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” from 2020. A film adaptation of the book is set for a fall 2026 premiere.
Initially, the actor played Peeta in “The Hunger Games” (2012), “Catching Fire” (2013), “Mockingjay – Part 1” (2014) and “Part 2” (2015). In these films, he starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne.

Moving forward from his days in Panem, Hutcherson is delving into fresh endeavors. He’s set to return as night security guard Mike Schmidt in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, which premieres on December 5. Here, he joins forces once more with director Emma Tammi and fellow actor Matthew Lillard.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but be captivated by the enigmatic future of Peeta Mellark. Yet, one thing is clear: Jennifer Lawrence’s co-star, Josh Hutcherson, is nothing if not passionately invested in his role. Regardless of whether Suzanne Collins decides to expand the storyline, we, as fans, can keep tabs on this versatile actor as he embarks on fresh and thrilling ventures in his career.
