As a long-time fan of both Josh Brolin and the Green Lantern character, I must admit that I was initially excited about the prospect of seeing him bring Hal Jordan to life on the small screen. However, the recent news of his passing on the role has left me feeling slightly disheartened.
Movie enthusiasts were excited to hear that Josh Brolin was given an opportunity in HBO’s forthcoming Lanterns series. But according to the latest updates from The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that the actor from Gangster Squad has declined this specific role.
The highly acclaimed actor was offered to play Hal Jordan in the Green Lantern-focused series, which discusses one of the most intriguing superheroes from the famous Detective Comics.
Interestingly enough, the role Ryan Reynolds played in the 2011 Green Lantern film, a part he had taken on before, was not particularly well-received. The movie didn’t do so well.
Based on reports from several reliable sources, it appears that Josh Brolin was extended an offer for a role towards the end of August this year. By the end of the past weekend, Brolin, known for his work in “Only The Brave,” had decided not to move forward with the series.
No further details have been revealed as of now.
Presently, the HBO superhero series titled “Lanterns” is in search of directors and actors, reaching out to notable figures like Brolin. Notably, Chris Mundy from “Ozark” will be overseeing this eight-episode series as its showrunner, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the same source, Damon Lindelof, recognized for his work on HBO’s Watchmen and the hit television show Lost, is set to collaborate as a co-writer on the series, partnering with Tom King, a laureate of the Eisner Award in the comic book writing field.
In January of next year, the production of the show will commence under HBO’s supervision. They aim to wrap up filming by June.
The reports confirm that filming for the movie is set to take place in Atlanta, according to THR. This story seems reminiscent of True Detective, as it revolves around Jordan instructing a young Green Lantern, John Stewart. For those who may not know, John Stewart was one of DC Comics’ pioneering Black superheroes.
As your go-to lifestyle guide, I’m excited to delve into the career of the talented Josh Brolin. You might recognize him from his compelling portrayal of Labor Day’s leading man, but he’s no stranger to bringing comic book heroes to life on the big screen. In fact, he’s donned the mantle of Thanos in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films, showcasing his versatility and commitment to these iconic roles.
Simultaneously, he took on another Marvel character, Cable, in Deadpool 2. Additionally, similar to Brolin who portrays Hal Jordan, several other prominent Hollywood actors, including Matthew McConaughey, were reportedly going to be part of the same HBO show.
