Josh Brolin Reportedly Cast as Hal Jordan in DCU’s ‘Lanterns’

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours invested in DC Universe games and comics, I must say that the prospect of Josh Brolin joining the cast of the Green Lanterns series has sent a thrill down my virtual spine! If you recall, I was just discussing our shared love for Brolin’s performance as Thanos, the Mad Titan. Now, he’s stepping into another iconic role, and I can hardly contain my excitement!

Currently, the DC Universe is overseeing multiple projects led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Some of the upcoming launches include an animated series titled ‘Creature Commandos’ and a live-action adaptation of ‘Superman,’ both scheduled for 2025. Additionally, various live-action shows based on DC’s famous characters are also being created in the pipeline.

As per the latest gossip circulating, it seems that the Green Lanterns series is making considerable strides, as it reveals some substantial changes in its cast lineup.

According to reports from podcast host TheInSneider and Nexus Point News, it seems Josh Brolin, famously recognized by Marvel fans as Thanos and Cable, might be part of the ‘Lanterns’ series, taking on the role of Hal Jordan, one of the main Lantern characters.

To date, neither recognized authorities nor James Gunn have verified this rumor, allegedly a highly confidential matter within the studio.

In the upcoming series, it’s anticipated that three significant Green Lantern characters will make an appearance: Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner. As of now, only Nathan Fillion has been officially confirmed for the role of Guy Gardner. The character of John Stewart is yet to be cast, although whispers suggest the studio is seeking a well-known actor for this part. Latest news points towards them considering a relatively young actor, possibly in his twenties, which coincides with Gunn’s previous statements about preferring a younger cast in the DCU to secure the viability of future productions. This preference for youthful talent is also speculated to be one factor behind the decision not to keep Henry Cavill as Superman in the DCU.

Initially, it seems the production team had intended to portray an older Hal Jordan and a younger John Stewart in the upcoming series. Reports suggest DC Studios were interested in casting white actors between 43-49 for Hal Jordan and Black actors aged 27-35 for John Stewart. Given Josh Brolin’s current age of 56, he is older than the desired range for Hal Jordan.

Nonetheless, Brolin’s prominence in superhero adaptations adds excitement to the potential casting. If he does take on the role of Hal Jordan, it will be intriguing to see his portrayal.
