Josh Brolin Recalls James Cameron Being Upset With Him Over Turning Down THIS Role; Details Inside

As an ardent fan of Josh Brolin, I find his journey in Hollywood nothing short of intriguing. His ability to navigate through the industry, turning down high-profile roles like the one in Avatar, only to accidentally land another significant role in Dune, is a testament to his unique charm and charisma.

Josh Brolin remembered causing James Cameron some displeasure when he declined a significant role in the original Avatar movie. Later on, the star from Marvel was invited by the director to join the cast for the sequel of Avatar, titled Avatar: The Path of Water, which hit theaters in 2022.

During his latest interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, an Avengers: Endgame actor disclosed that he turned down the film, leading to Cameron’s frustration.

Further in conversation with the host of the show, Brolin revealed, “I heard he was angry.”

He also mentioned, “I grasp the concept well, for when one holds thoughts within and possesses a position and influence… it becomes natural for others to express deep gratitude when such offerings are made to them.

As for me, I chose not to directly approach the director of Titanic, as I wasn’t certain about his current state of mind. Frankly, I don’t have a close enough relationship with him to know for sure. Yet, my decision wasn’t influenced by him personally, but rather by the nature of the project itself. It was the project that caught my attention, not the man behind it.

During an earlier Esquire interview, the actor openly expressed that he held no regrets over declining the popular movie role and further disclosed a pattern of being called derogatory names by the director in various settings. Brolin candidly commented in his 2017 conversation, “James Cameron kept hurling insults at me.

He also mentioned, “Regardless, if James Cameron were to ask me, ‘Why did you make that statement?’, I would respond, ‘Because that’s what actually occurred.’

During an interview with In Depth, the well-known movie star disclosed that he ended up taking on a role in Dune by mistake. He explained that he actually went there to propose another concept, but due to some confusion, he was instead offered a part in Dune instead.

In my own words, let me share that I hadn’t originally aimed for the role of Dune; instead, I pitched another concept. However, during our conversation, producer Mary Parent suggested, “How about Josh Brolin for Dune?” and here we are today!

As Josh Brolin was offered the role, without having a second thought, he accepted it.
