Josh & Benny Safdie to Make a New Crime Series, ‘Superfakes,’ for Peacock

Peacock has commissioned a brand new crime drama titled “Superfakes“. This series is the brainchild of creator Alice Ju, who will not only write it but also act as its executive producer, showrunner, and guiding force. The Safdie brothers, specifically Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie, are involved as executive producers along with Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke from 3 Arts.

Besides Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush, other executive producers are involved in the production. The show is being produced by A24 and Universal Content Productions (UCP).

The storyline of “Superfakes” centers on a petty counterfeiter residing in Chinatown, who finds herself navigating a perilous underground market as she strives to build a dignified and suburban lifestyle for her loved ones.

Alice Ju, a member of the award-winning team responsible for the Netflix series ‘Beef’, boasts an impressive resume. She’s also contributed to scripts for ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Russian Doll’, and has been involved in projects like ‘The Other Two’ and ‘Ghosts (Fantasmas)’.

The duo, the Safdie brothers, who have a history with A24 productions, recently collaborated with them again for the Showtime series titled “The Curse“. Notably, Benny Safdie served as both co-creator and executive producer of this particular project.

People who enjoyed the movie “Uncut Gems” might notice a similar flair in its direction, since they were also behind the scenes of that successful film. At present, Benny is gearing up for his next project, “The Smashing Machine,” which features Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as the lead actor.

The upcoming series titled “Superfakes” promises a thrilling journey into the world of crime dramas, with prominent figures from both television and cinema lending their skills to the production.
