Jonathan Majors Eager to Return as Kang in the MCU and Reveals One Major Regret

As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel fan, I find myself torn between hope and disillusionment when it comes to Jonathan Majors‘ future in the MCU. On one hand, his portrayal of Kang the Conqueror was electrifying, a performance that truly captured the essence of this complex villain. On the other hand, the allegations against him are serious and require due process.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Jonathan Majors was poised to assume a significant antagonist role, stepping into the shoes of Thanos, portrayed by Josh Brolin previously. Notably, he made his debut as He Who Remains in the first season of ‘Loki’. Critics and audiences alike lauded both his character and acting in this series.

Following this, Majors found himself involved in additional productions: ‘Loki’ Season 2, which saw him resume his characters, He Who Remains and Victor Timely, and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’

The premiere of ‘Quantumania’ signaled the start of troubles for Jonathan Majors. Not long after its release, Majors was taken into custody over allegations of physically abusing a woman believed to be his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. After his arrest, he was dismissed from various projects, his representatives stepped down, and advertisements featuring him were withdrawn.

Despite not being formally let go by Disney at the time of Loki Season 2’s release in late 2021, the fate of the project was uncertain, pending the court case outcome. In December 2023, the verdict arrived, leading to Majors’ official dismissal by Disney. This sparked rumors that his character might be dropped from the MCU, with the studio possibly considering a new antagonist instead.

The buzz surrounding these theories peaked during this year’s SDCC, with the announcement that ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ has been renamed ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ This new title promises the appearance of Robert Downey Jr., who will portray Doctor Doom in the film.

In a chat with TMZ, actor Jonathan Majors, eager to make a splash in Hollywood once more, shared his hope for another opportunity to embody the character Kang, whom he holds dear. This role not only promises substantial monetary gains and fame but also carries immense weight due to its high-profile status within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the most prosperous and financially lucrative franchise in history.

TMZ: It has been revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role for Marvel as Doctor Doom, effectively taking over the villain role from Kang. Doesn’t this change of direction leave you feeling a bit sidelined, considering how Marvel is now choosing to go about things?

Majors: Yeah, heartbroken.

TMZ: You are?

Majors: Yeah, come on. Yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is legit though.

The actor has one significant regret: he didn’t receive the same treatment as Robert Downey Jr. or Ezra Miller from the DCEU. Both actors faced serious legal troubles and were not the ideal faces for family-friendly franchises, especially considering Miller’s disturbing allegations.

Regardless, both performers had chances at rehabilitation, but RDJ managed it brilliantly, resurrecting his acting career and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whereas Miller’s attempt to make amends fell short, resulting in a fragile DCEU post-‘The Flash.’

Interlocutor: Indeed, Robert Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller have a past marked by legal issues and arrests for felonies. Compared to them, your offense was just a misdemeanor. Don’t you think it’s somewhat unjust if you feel that the opportunities extended to them are not being granted to you in the same way?

Majors: I believe it’s appropriate that both Mr. Downey and Mr. Miller have been received with patience, curiosity, affection, and given the freedom to express their creativity and artistic abilities at a high level. To be honest, I hadn’t quite grasped this aspect before.

TMZ: Do you wish you had like this same opportunity as them?

Majors: I mean that’s hard. I mean, come on, yeah.

TMZ: Why do you mean that’s a case though? For them?

Majors: Wow! I don’t know. *laughs*

TMZ: Would you want your old role back? Like, your old job back as Kang the Conqueror?

Are the Majors Kang? Absolutely! Definitely yes, yes! I’m a big fan of him. I adore Kang. I also love He Who Remains. I appreciate them all. If that’s what the fans and Marvel prefer, then count me in!
