Jon Bernthal once again embodies The Punisher in Disney+’s newest series, Daredevil: Born Again. Although his character holds a supporting position within the popular show at present, plans are underway for him to star in a separate production that delves deeply into the life of a vengeful father who transforms into a vigilante.
During the SXSW premiere of his film The Accountant 2, the actor shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he feels strongly about the character, Frank, and is thankful for the chance to share a story that he believes the audience deserves.
In a subsequent comment, Bernthal expressed his enthusiasm about The Punisher special, stating that the team involved is giving their all in portraying Frank Castle’s narrative. Elaborating on its style, he shared, “It won’t be simple or cheerful, and I believe it’s the interpretation this character merits. I’m simply overwhelmed with pride and gratitude for having the chance to be part of it.
In contrast to the Netflix show, Bernthal noted, “It’s going to be a grim portrayal; Frank has no intentions of escaping from his gloom.
He went on to clarify that although he’s not certain about maintaining the exact mood of the Netflix adaptation, he assured us it won’t be a watered-down version like a lighter Punisher.
As a devoted fan, let me share some background: My beloved character, the Punisher, was initially unveiled in Netflix’s Daredevil all the way back in 2016. Subsequently, this gritty character got his own series, which aired from 2017 until 2019.
Following its renewal on Disney+, Jon Bernthal is poised to reappear in the Daredevil series. Additionally, it was revealed towards the end of February that this character, who plays an antihero role, would be receiving a standalone special under Marvel Television. It’s intriguing to note that Bernthal will collaborate with Reinaldo Marcus Green on the script for this special, with Green also set to direct it.
