News broke that Sebastian Stan is likely to appear in The Batman – Part II, and now Variety reports that Barry Keoghan will also reprise his role as the Joker.
Barry Keoghan had a quick cameo in the first movie, hinting at a possible partnership with Paul Dano’s Riddler while locked up in Arkham. It seems that story thread will be picked up in future installments.

Joker’s Role Still Unknown
Although Warner Bros. hasn’t officially announced it, a report from the trusted publication Variety indicates that Barry Keoghan will likely reprise his role as the Joker in the upcoming sequel.
The extent of the Joker’s involvement is still unknown. Matt Reeves has mentioned seeing the character as a symbol of Gotham’s overall decline, rather than a central antagonist. However, bringing the Joker back, even for a small part, enriches the expanding universe Reeves is creating.
Matt Reeves shared a previously cut scene from The Batman that features Robert Pattinson’s Batman encountering Barry Keoghan’s Joker in Arkham Asylum. The five-minute clip offered a disturbing look at Keoghan’s portrayal of the Joker – a character visibly scarred and mentally unstable – and suggested the two have a past connection.

Joker, Two-Face, And Gotham’s Criminal Rise
There’s speculation that Sebastian Stan might portray Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson could play Gilda Dent in The Batman – Part II. If true, this would mean Bruce Wayne could encounter the beginnings of future enemies.
In this take on Gotham, the Joker, Two-Face, the Riddler, and the Penguin are all operating, creating a group of villains that reflects Bruce Wayne’s own troubled journey.
Rumors also offer the main villain could be either Hush or Mr. Freeze.
The Batman – Part II Release Info
Robert Pattinson will return as Batman in the sequel, directed by Matt Reeves, which is currently planned for release on October 1, 2027.
