LEGO’s Free NYC Star Wars SMART Play Experience Sends You on Iconic Adventures
LEGO is offering a free Star Wars experience in New York City’s Flatiron district. Visitors will choose to follow the path of the Light Side or the Dark Side, taking them on a journey through famous Star Wars locations built with LEGOs – like Tatooine and the Death Star. This is a chance for fans to see LEGO Star Wars sets up close and personal.
Sounds pretty cool, but there’s more to the story… Of course, there’s swag.
This LEGO Star Wars SMART Play Pop-Up Experience Has Swag, Including Make and Take Lightsaber
LEGO is giving fans a sneak peek at a free event in NYC called SMART Play! Attendees will get vouchers for collectible cards showing whether they’re on the Light Side or Dark Side, or a Companion card they can use at the LEGO Store in Flatiron. Plus, while supplies last, they can build a free lightsaber set at the LEGO Store, complete with a special tag to use with their LEGO Star Wars sets.
A free, make-your-own lightsaber kit sounds amazing, and it even includes a special Star Wars SMART Tag! We think it’s a really cool offer.

- WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, March 7 & 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

What If You’re Not in NYC? Lightsaber Make and Take Pop-Ups Are Coming to Participating Stores Across the US
If you don’t live in New York City, you won’t be able to experience the complete LEGO Star Wars SMART Play pop-up event. However, you can still enjoy building a unique lightsaber! LEGO Stores nationwide are hosting special events where you can create a lightsaber you won’t find anywhere else.
On March 7th and 8th, 2026, from 12 to 2 pm, LEGO Stores in Paramus, NJ (Garden State) and Orem, UT (University Place) will be offering a free LEGO Star Wars Lightsaber building event. Supplies are limited, so be sure to check if your local store is participating: [link to participation checker].
