The news of one of the accused pleading guilty and being released on bail feels like a slap in the face, a cruel reminder of the injustice that often prevails in our society.
One of the four people who were charged in the General Hospital actor Johnny Wactor’s death case has pleaded guilty. Leonel Gutierrez, the 18-year-old boy, is also out on bail as per new reports.
According to reports from CBS News, KTLA 5, and Fox 11, Gutierrez was freed on Thursday night after posting a $120,000 bond and admitting guilt to both charges of robbery and grand theft.
Meanwhile, the other names are Robert Barceleau, 18, Sergio Estrada, 18, and Frank Olano, 22.
In May, the Los Angeles Police Department claimed that a group of four individuals murdered Johnny Wactor, with the motive being an attempt to steal his car’s catalytic converter during the crime.
As per reports, the star was shot in downtown Los Angeles when he approached the robbers.
Speaking about PEOPLE, the sibling of the deceased actor Grant Wactor revealed that Johnny was a bartender who had just finished his work at 3:25 in the morning (local time). Following his shift, he departed from the bar with his female coworker, and as they walked towards their vehicles, they encountered four robbers near his car, according to Grant.
Additionally, it was pointed out by his brother that Johnny Wactor attempted to manage the situation by elevating his arms above his head, simultaneously shielding his coworker as well.
Grant pointed out that he didn’t intervene, but instead, he was attempting to de-escalate the situation by taking a step back.
According to reports, the coroner determined that the actor died from a gunshot wound to his chest. Police have classified his death as a homicide.
According to CBS News, Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, who are accused, face charges for murder and attempted robbery respectively.
Among the four individuals here, it’s Olano who allegedly faces charges for aiding in a crime, taking possession of stolen goods, and carrying a gun on three occasions – all as a convicted felon.
CBS News has also shared that these three individuals did not enter a guilty plea for the alleged offense they were charged with last month.
On May 25 of this year, Johnny Wactor, a widely recognized actor, met his untimely end. At the time of his passing, he was 37 years old. Known for his roles in General Hospital, Army Wives, NCIS, The OA, Westworld, and other productions, Wactor left an indelible mark on the screen.
