Johnny Depp Speaks Out on Actor Habits That Make Him “Sickened”

Johnny Depp criticized actors who try to become musicians simply because they’re famous. He described this trend as “sickening” in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald during the 2015 Berlin Film Festival, where he was promoting his film Mortdecai.

He described the idea as deeply unpleasant, saying it has always bothered him. Depp, who has played guitar for many years, explained that he loves music as a hobby, but doesn’t want to profit from his celebrity status by pursuing it professionally.

I’ve had the good fortune to collaborate with friends on their music, and I still enjoy being involved in music today. However, I don’t plan to form my own band called The Johnny Depp Band – that’s not something I’ll be doing.”

Depp expressed his dislike for fans attending his concerts simply because they recognize him from his films. He believes, “It shouldn’t be about seeing an actor play music; the audience should be there because they enjoy the music itself.” He wants people to connect with his music, not his celebrity status.

Though Johnny Depp didn’t mention any names, many fans believe he was hinting at actors like Jared Leto, Jamie Foxx, and Michael Cera, who also have careers as musicians.

Even with recent criticism, Johnny Depp is still actively making music. In early 2023, he revealed plans to tour with his band, Hollywood Vampires, and used TikTok to express his gratitude to fans who attended his concerts with Jeff Beck.

In a heartfelt video message, he thanked his dedicated supporters, saying, ‘We’ve shared so much together, stood for what’s right together, and now, we’ll move forward together, all thanks to your support.’
