Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of Pirates of the Caribbean, has left room for Johnny Depp to potentially reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in future films.
In related news, Gina Carano won her lawsuit against Disney and could be returning to Star Wars.
What did Jerry Bruckheimer say about Johnny Depp?
During a conversation with EW.com, Bruckheimer shared that discussions have taken place regarding Depp’s potential return to the blockbuster franchise, worth over $1 billion.
If the script appeals to him, I believe he’d be interested. After all, it’s the content that matters most, a fact we can all agree upon.

A Reboot With a Familiar Face?
For the upcoming sequel, Bruckheimer has emphasized that it serves as a fresh start for the series. However, he has also stated that if given the choice, Johnny Depp would have been involved in the plot.
If I had my way, they would cast him in the remake because I adore him – he’s not just a friend, but an exceptional artist with a distinctive flair. He’s the one who brought Captain Jack to life; it wasn’t written, it was his creative touch that made Jack Sparrow what he is today – a blend of Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards, if you will, his unique interpretation.

Script Development Is Underway
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that an exciting project is in the works! Known for his brilliant work on ‘The Last of Us’, Craig Mazin has lent his creative talents to the initial drafts. And let’s not forget Ted Elliott, a longtime Pirates scribe who’s also contributed significantly.
Currently, the reins are in the capable hands of Jeff Nathanson, renowned for penning ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’. I can hardly contain my anticipation as we move forward with this captivating production!
Last year, Bruckheimer revealed that Nathanson had successfully figured out key aspects of the script, particularly the powerful third act. However, refinements for the initial two acts are yet to be completed.

Depp’s History with Disney
Johnny Depp has mainly been focusing on smaller, indie films since his departure from the franchise following the Amber Heard trial, keeping a low profile in Hollywood.
It seems that there’s a growing likelihood of Johnny Depp returning to Disney, as a potential agreement is being considered, although an official deal hasn’t been finalized yet.
What’s Next for Johnny Depp?
In more straightforward terms: Johnny Depp recently played Louis XV in the movie “Jeanne du Barry”, lent his voice to the spinoff of the animated series “Puffins”, and will appear as Satan alongside Adam Driver, Jason Momoa, Jeff Bridges, and Asa Butterfield in Terry Gilliam’s upcoming film titled “The Carnival at the End of Days”.
Maybe we’ll see Depp back as Captain Jack, as well?
