As a lifestyle expert who has navigated countless social blunders and hilarious misunderstandings, I find John Mulaney‘s latest faux pas to be both relatable and amusing. It seems that even celebrities are not immune to sending texts to the wrong person, a mishap that can happen to anyone with a smartphone.
On The Tonight Show on December 10, comedian John Mulaney humorously recounted an incident of mistaken identity with Grammy-winning artist Miguel. It turned out that Mulaney had accidentally messaged the wrong Miguel about a bed bug problem, which occurred while he was filming for Poker Face in New York City.
Mulaney told Jimmy Fallon that they were filming at an old motel in New York for one scene, which raised some worries. “We’re working at a rundown, actual location like a motel for this particular scene,” Mulaney explained. After the day’s work, director Miguel Arteta found red marks on his legs and thought they might be from bed bugs.
At a later point, Mulaney encountered similar issues. “I exclaim, ‘Oh my goodness, I’ve got bed bugs while doing a Peacock show!’ You wouldn’t expect that, but it happens!” Mulaney quipped humorously. In an attempt to resolve the problem, he reached out to Natasha Lyonne, the lead of the show, for Arteta’s contact details.
Inadvertently, Lyonne passed along Miguel’s phone number to Mulaney instead of Arteta. Unbeknownst to the confusion, Mulaney texted saying, “Miguel, this is John Mulaney. I have these red bumps on my legs as well! What did you do about it? Are these bed bugs indeed?” He concluded by thanking Miguel for an enjoyable day.
Mulaney chuckled as he replayed the message out loud, finding it strange. At first, there was no reply, but he wasn’t concerned because he thought Arteta might be at an early practice.
The next day, Mulaney was yet to receive a response, so he decided to confirm with Lyonne. He informed Fallon that he had phoned Natasha because Miguel Arteta hadn’t responded. It was then that Lyonne recognized her error and conceded that she had inadvertently sent him the wrong Miguel.
After resolving the misunderstanding, Mulaney assured Fallon that the bites were not from bed bugs. He told Miguel that if he had been watching, they weren’t bed bugs; he also mentioned that an on-set medical professional informed him that it was all right, and he chuckled about the situation.
In pure enthusiasm, I’d say: “John Mulaney wrapped up the tale with a chuckle, labeling it a valuable lesson on double-checking contacts before texting. The blunder, although amusing, turned out to be harmless, and both Miguels must have walked away with an anecdote they’ll never forget.
