As a devoted fan with a heart full of admiration for John Legend, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of joy and anticipation at the prospect of his upcoming children’s album, My Favorite Dream. The involvement of his family, particularly his talented 8-year-old daughter Luna, adds an endearing touch that makes this project even more intriguing.
John Legend’s 8-year-old daughter is eagerly preparing to carry on her father’s musical legacy, as he shared in a recent Instagram post. The Grammy winner announced that he will soon release a children’s album called “My Favorite Dream,” and his family plays an integral part in the project. In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Legend discussed his upcoming album and how his daughter’s artwork inspired him to be involved.
“Legend shared that Luna created the unique artwork for every track on my kids’ album I’ve been developing,” he said, expressing how much fun this collaboration has been for him. He then presented the cover art for our first single, ‘L-O-V-E’, a vibrant showcase of creativity with the word boldly spelled out. “This first single serves as the signature tune for the album and it’s titled ‘L-O-V-E’. It features Chrissy, Luna, and Miles lending their voices in backing vocals (this is the first album credit for both Luna and Miles!)” Legend added that his family will be making a special appearance on this song.
Absolutely, this upcoming record isn’t just for children to appreciate. In fact, the EGOT winner aims for adults, especially parents, to enjoy it as well. According to Legend, he strived for the same level of quality and musicianship in this album that he would for any of his other records.
In my own words, I trace the beginnings to a rather straightforward place, as I shared with PEOPLE magazine. My enthusiasm was sparked by the artistic ventures my children have embarked upon, particularly Luna, who shows great passion for art and craftwork. Moreover, I attribute my growing understanding of empathy to my eldest child.
Apart from Esti and Wren, other children are also getting involved in music. According to the musician (who is Chrissy Teigen’s husband and shares kids Luna, Miles, Wren Alexander, and Esti Maxine with her), they conduct a small music class at home for children of similar age. He finds it fascinating to observe as these kids are quite passionate about music at the moment, and they’re just starting to explore their musical talents.
On this album, chamber pop musician Sufjan Stevens contributes to its production. The album explores topics such as love, kinship, and aspirations. “My Favorite Dream” comprises nine original soundtracks, two cover versions, and an extra treat: covers of a few Fisher-Price tunes.
L-O-V-E is out now, and the album will be released on August 30.
