As a lifelong fan of the enchanting world of Scott Westerfeld’s “Uglies”, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming film adaptation! Ever since I first stumbled upon this captivating tale at the tender age of eleven, it has held a special place in my heart. Now, with Joey King taking on the role of Tally and the brilliant mind behind Charlie’s Angels, McG, at the helm, I find myself utterly spellbound!
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the groundbreaking dystopian film, Uglies, where I take on the role of Tally. This thought-provoking movie is an adaptation from Scott Westerfeld’s 2005 novel of the same name, geared towards young adults. In this captivating storyline, my character, Tally, faces a life-altering decision: to undergo cosmetic surgery at sixteen, transforming her into what society considers beautiful. This film is a powerful commentary on beauty norms and the pressure that society places upon us.
Tally eagerly anticipates transforming her physical self. She yearns for social interaction. However, when her companion abruptly departs, the scenario shifts dramatically. Determined to locate her friend, Tally embarks on a voyage that leads her to ponder about aesthetics and societal norms.
Under the direction of McG, known for Charlie’s Angels, the film Uglies features Keith Powers, Chase Stokes, Brianne Tju, Jan Luis Castellanos, Charmin Lee, and Laverne Cox. At the age of 25 and now older, King has openly expressed her long-standing affection for this story, revealing that she has harbored a deep interest in it since she was just eleven years old.
Scott Westerfeld played a significant role in transforming his book into a movie script. In this process, he functioned as a co-producer, collaborating extensively with director McG. McG highly appreciated Westerfeld’s dedication to the narrative, as he aimed for precision in every detail.
Westerfeld emphasized the depth of McG’s dedication to the project, as well as his profound connection to the world portrayed in the book. The Uglies series doesn’t resemble movies that stray from their original texts; instead, it provides a fresh perspective on societal norms surrounding beauty.
From September 13 you will be able to watch Uglies on Netflix.
