It seems the ominous day is shining bright, as Anthony and Joe Russo are beaming with pride over Robert Downey Jr., who’s gearing up to portray one of the most formidable villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For those who may not know yet, the actor from “Due Date” will appear in the thrilling franchise as Doctor Doom.
Despite some divided opinions among fans over his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe following his iconic stint as Iron Man, the directors of Avengers: Infinity War are eager to engage in conversations about the actor and his fervor for his fresh character.
According to Joe Russo, speaking with Entertainment Tonight, “He’s completely engrossed in it.” In other words, Robert Downey Jr.’s focus is absolutely unwavering. To further emphasize his commitment, Joe Russo mentioned that not only is RDJ working on the backstory for Doctor Von Doom, but he also has a number of costume ideas up his sleeve.
Earlier today, Joe mentioned that he had spoken with Robert Downey Jr., and further explained, “He’s particularly drawn to complex, multi-layered characters. He finds a lot of potential in this role we’re discussing.
Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, it was disclosed that Robert Downey Jr. would portray Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Additionally, the directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier were unveiled as the directors for both forthcoming Avengers films: Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Robert Downey Jr. made his debut as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe way back in 2008. Over the course of Phases 1 to 4, he consistently brought energy and excitement to the role with his top-notch performances. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, his character, Tony Stark aka Iron Man, met his end during the fight against Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released in theaters on May 1, 2026.
