As a gamer with over two decades of immersion in various virtual worlds, I can empathize with Jodie Turner-Smith‘s longing to return to the Star Wars universe. The allure of exploring new galaxies and battling the dark side is undeniable. Despite the turbulent journey that ‘The Acolyte’ took, it left a lasting impact on me, much like a beloved but challenging RPG.
In more straightforward terms: ‘The Acolyte’ is a recent entry into the Star Wars universe, but it’s also been labeled as one of the least successful in its entire run. Despite Disney investing around $160 million into its production, the show didn’t live up to expectations. Its viewership was disappointingly low, which resulted in its termination after only 8 episodes. Some people believe that the show’s cancellation was due to concerns such as racism and misogyny, depending on who you talk to.
It appears that this subject is frequently brought up during online debates about the series. During its broadcast, the actors, particularly Amandla Stenberg who portrayed the characters Osha and Mae, allegedly faced racially charged remarks.
Alongside Stenberg in their role, Jodie Turner-Smith (who played Mother Aniseya) experienced racial discrimination, and she even publicly criticized Disney for failing to support its actors when a hostile segment of the fandom launched attacks against her and her fellow cast members online.
After several months since ‘The Acolyte’ incident, Jodie Turner-Smith expressed to Collider that, despite all that unfolded, she harbors a desire to rejoin the series.
The actress voiced her eagerness to resume work on ‘The Acolyte’ or comparable productions within the Star Wars realm. She relished being involved with this franchise, found the experience rewarding and satisfying, and considers it a cherished opportunity despite any difficulties or behind-the-scenes complexities associated with it.
Ultimately, she has no regrets and would eagerly return if given the chance.
Absolutely, I’d be more than happy to revisit that world! It was a fantastic experience for me, one I truly enjoyed every moment of. Regardless, the work is always enjoyable and fulfilling.
Beyond the task itself, there were numerous additional elements that seemed unrelated, possibly political, and yet colorful or otherwise, but this project was a cherished dream to contribute to. I’d gladly take part again if given the chance. There are no regrets in my book; if another opportunity arises, I’ll be ready and eager to participate.

The announcement arrives not long after Manny Jacinto disclosed that if ‘The Acolyte’ Season 2 hadn’t been scrapped, it would have delved deeper into the character of Darth Plagueis.
To be fair Jacinto did say that he doesn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up, but it certainly seemed like something more has been teased, especially revolving around his character, who was fan-favorite during the show’s run.
Regardless, it’s heartening to know that Turner-Smith is willing to reprise her role. Yet, it seems challenging to include her character in upcoming episodes since her character has passed away.
In the end, a prequel series could delve into Aniseya’s character, potentially focusing on the story of how she gained the ability to bring life into existence, or revealing the methods she used to create her twin children, Osha and Mae.
I’d be thrilled if my favorite character could reappear in flashbacks should our show get renewed for another season. At present, though, it seems rather improbable.
