Alright, settle in, folks. We’re talking penny stocks. And not the kind your grandma collects. This is Joby Aviation (JOBY 0.47%). Now, I’ve seen a lot of “revolutionary” companies come and go – more than a few promising perpetual motion machines, let me tell you. But this one… this one’s got wings. Literally. And possibly a death wish, but we’ll get to that.
They’re building flying taxis. Yes, you heard that right. Not those yellow cabs that smell vaguely of regret and stale pretzels, but actual airborne vehicles. The eVTOL market, they call it – Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing. Sounds like something out of The Jetsons, doesn’t it? Except instead of Rosie the Robot, you’ll probably get a slightly stressed-out pilot who’s questioning all their life choices. They’re predicting this thing will hit $28.6 billion by 2030. That’s a lot of sky-high Uber fares. A 54.9% compound annual growth rate? Oy vey. That’s faster than my Uncle Leo’s stories get taller.
Picture this: a drone big enough to cram you and a few friends into. It’s essentially a glorified, very expensive, and potentially terrifying remote-controlled helicopter. They’re aiming to bypass traffic, soar over gridlock, and deposit you at your destination… assuming everything goes according to plan. And let’s be honest, when has anything ever gone according to plan?
Now, they’ve actually flown these things. That’s… encouraging. They haven’t quite gotten the FAA’s blessing to start ferrying paying customers yet, but they’re working on it. It’s a bureaucratic process, you know. More paperwork than a medieval scribe.
They’re building a factory in Dayton, Ohio. A factory. They’re aiming for four aircraft a month by 2027. That’s a lot of propellers. And a lot of potential for things to go spectacularly wrong. They also have facilities in California. So, if one state decides flying cars are a terrible idea, they’ve got a backup plan. Smart. Very smart.
Right now, revenue is… let’s just say it’s not exactly printing money. But they’re expecting things to pick up in the next couple of years. That’s the plan, anyway. A plan is a good start. A solid foundation for… well, for hoping.

Look, this is a risky play. Flight safety is, shall we say, a concern. Volatility is practically guaranteed. But for those of you with a high tolerance for risk and a penchant for the absurd, this $10 eVTOL stock might just be worth a look. Just… maybe don’t book your next vacation based on the assumption you’ll be flying in one of these things. And definitely pack a parachute. You know, just in case. It’s a small price to pay for potentially getting in on the ground floor… or, should I say, the sky floor?
