As first announced back in July, now Jimmy Olsen is officially getting his own show.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creators of American Vandal, Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, are joining DC Studios to develop a Superman spinoff. They will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunners for the series, which will star Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, the photographer at the Daily Planet.
Gisondo was a breakout star in James Gunn’s Superman, and now DC is giving him the spotlight.

Olsen Series Targets Gorilla Grodd
The first season of the new DCU show will center around Gorilla Grodd, a super-smart, mind-reading ape famous for leading Gorilla City and battling the Flash. Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, Grodd first showed up in The Flash comics back in 1959 and remains one of DC’s most well-known villains.
Grodd was also featured in Gunn’s Creature Commandos animated series.
Though Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and David Corenswet’s Clark Kent won’t be featured, the series will follow Jimmy Olsen and other journalists from the Daily Planet as they explore strange cases involving supervillains, beginning with Grodd.

From American Vandal to DCU
The new series will likely be funny and satirical, similar to a mockumentary, thanks to the hiring of creators Perrault and Yacenda. They’re known for their work on Netflix’s American Vandal, a popular parody of true-crime documentaries that even won awards. They’ve continued to create comedies like Players for Paramount+ and, recently, Perrault wrote Strays, a raunchy comedy about talking dogs. Yacenda also directed episodes of Glenn Powell’s new series, Chad Powers.
Gunn and Peter Safran are executive producers on the Olsen series, and Galen Vaisman is overseeing the project for DC Studios.
