While Jimmy Kimmel’s time away from ABC after his suspension might have made people wonder when he’d be back, viewers didn’t continue watching when he did return.
I was really glad to see Jimmy Kimmel Live! back on the air after that short pause Disney took because of Jimmy’s comments about the guy who allegedly tried to harm Charlie Kirk. And wow, the return episode last Tuesday? A huge 6.5 million people tuned in – it’s great to see so much support for the show!
But the ratings spike was short-lived.
I was really surprised to read in the New York Post that the late-night show had dropped to an average of just 2.3 million viewers by Thursday. It’s a truly 64% drop in viewership – a staggering change in only two days, if you can believe it!
Collapse in Key Demographics
The decline was even sharper in the demographics most important to advertisers:
- Adults 25–54: Fell from 1.7 million Tuesday to 465,000 Thursday (73% loss).
- Adults 18–49: Dropped from 1.2 million Tuesday to just 334,000 Thursday (73% loss).
A Decade-Long Downward Trend
Kimmel’s audience has been shrinking for years.
- 2015: Averaged 2.4 million viewers.
- 2020: Down to 1.8 million.
- 2025: Averaging just 1.6 million before his suspension.
Despite the recent and public controversy, viewership numbers indicate that Jimmy Kimmel’s show isn’t connecting with audiences as it once did. This is concerning for Disney and ABC, especially as more options appear in the late-night television landscape. Many believe this decline in popularity is the primary reason his show was cancelled. It’s a worrying sign for the network.
Trump blasts Jimmy Kimmel
In a post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump strongly criticized ABC for renewing Jimmy Kimmel Live. He attacked the show’s host, pointing to low viewership numbers, and claimed the network is unfairly biased.
I’m shocked that ABC reinstated Jimmy Kimmel. We were informed by ABC that his show had been cancelled! Something clearly changed since then, as his viewership has completely disappeared, and he never had any real talent to begin with. Why would they bring back someone who performs so poorly, isn’t funny, and risks damaging the network by consistently pushing overwhelmingly pro-Democrat content? He’s just another extension of the DNC, and, as far as I can tell, that constitutes a significant Illegal Campaign Contribution. We’re going to challenge ABC on this. We’ll see how it goes. The last time I called them out, they paid me $16 Million Dollars. This situation seems like it could be even more profitable. They’re a complete failure! Let Jimmy Kimmel suffer with his terrible ratings.
