A new film documenting First Lady Melania Trump in the days before Donald Trump’s second inauguration recently earned $7 million in ticket sales. Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany praised the film, suggesting Melania would be the best-dressed attendee if she were to attend an awards show like the Oscars.
Jimmy Kimmel made a bold promise: if Melania Trump ever receives an Oscar nomination, he will host the awards show, even if he isn’t asked. He stated this firmly, and the audience responded with enthusiastic applause.
He jokingly pointed out the stark contrast between the film’s terrible reviews and the enthusiastic support it received on Fox News. While Rotten Tomatoes gave it a dismal 7% rating, Fox News praised it with a perfect 100% score.
The late-night host has criticized the movie before, calling it a $75 million attempt by Amazon to gain favor with the First Lady. He also made fun of how poorly it did in theaters, saying it broke a record for the lowest opening weekend of any non-musical movie made to promote a company or individual in the last decade.
Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted the Oscars four times, has often joked about Donald Trump during the shows. This year, in 2024, Kimmel publicly read a critical social media post from Trump about his hosting, and responded with a humorous jab. He quipped, “Okay, now guess which former president just posted that on Truth Social… Thanks, President Trump, for watching! I’m surprised you’re still awake – isn’t it past your jail time?”
Conan O’Brien hosted the Oscars last year and will be back to host again in March, but Jimmy Kimmel’s recent statements indicate he’s not finished with the show yet.
