In the September 18 episode of The Tonight Show, Fallon took the opportunity to congratulate himself on his nomination and subtly encourage his tough competitors to step down. “I’m going up against Seth Meyers, Mario Lopez, and Mark Consuelos,” he quipped playfully, expressing his displeasure in a sarcastic manner.
After making his case for winning the category, the comedian humorously suggested that others should step aside from the competition. He playfully said, “I’m truly grateful, but Seth could give me this… He would want me to win it. Being older, I guess you could say he wants grandpa to have something.” Addressing Lopez and Consuelos, he jokingly asked them to let him take the title as well since they are both fine with it.
He further claimed that the Live with Kelly and Mark and Access Hollywood hosts might “choose to be taken off the ballot,” and dedicated messages to them. He requested Consuelos remove his name while staring at the camera. “Then it would be me versus Mario Lopez,” he added.
Regarding Lopez, who has appeared on The Tonight Show and seems ready to give Jimmy his due: “He might say something like, ‘Jimmy, you’ve got it,’ out of respect,” Fallon stated. To make an even stronger impression for the outlet, he was photographed carrying PEOPLE’s shopping bag and feigned walking on a subway train.
Fallon emphasized another shared trait with the magazine to bolster his argument for the Sexiest TV Host title, noting that they both marked their 50th anniversary recently. “Check this out. ‘Established in 1974.’ What else was founded in the same year? You guessed it – me! It’s a no-brainer,” he quipped playfully.
