Summary
- U.K. rapper Jim Legxacy has unveiled his latest long-form studio release, black british music (2025)
- The 15-track project cements Legxacy as one of the most promising pioneers in both the British rap scene and global conversation
Over the past few years, I’ve been blown away by Jim Legxacy’s versatility in the U.K.’s underground rap scene. His work, such as producing the beat for Central Cee and Dave’s “Sprinter” during the Summer of 2023, has truly stood out. This hit song was released following Central Cee’s “homeless n*gga pop music,” which quickly went viral on a global scale.
However, Jim Legxacy isn’t new to overcoming challenges to reach his goals. His album, black british music (2025), serves as a time capsule of his recent years, a rich tapestry of genres, samples, and styles that beautifully narrate his homegrown journey.
Two years ago, Legxacy was living on the streets – a topic he tackles head-on in the opening track of black british music (2025), titled “context”. He raps, “Despite all the pain and struggle, this is the sh*t / Just before then, I thought I had finally turned my life around from being homeless / To releasing the mixtape and then ‘Sprinter’, it felt like my life was / Taking a turn for the better. But now, I’ve climbed out of the mud, only to find there’s always more mud waiting.” He concludes by saying, “I’ve climbed out of the mud, but you know, once you escape the mud, there’s always going to be more mud.
By no means is musician Legxacy struggling to find his way in 2025’s Black British music scene; he knows where he’s heading – he’s simply discovering just how far he can reach when he breaks free from genre boundaries and instead, follows the limitless path of his own creative intuition.
Labeling the “black British music (2025)” as just a “rap” album seems too simplistic. Each of its 15 tracks inhabit their unique space, collectively weaving an extensive and multifaceted soundscape that encompasses a wide range of musical influences beyond trap, bedroom pop, grime, drill, and Afropop.
