Summary
- JID has shared his fourth studio album, God Does Like Ugly
- The 15-track project features a stacked lineup of contributors – Westside Gunn, Clipse, Vince Staples, Don Toliver, and EARTHGANG included
Among the many highly anticipated hip hop releases, JID’s latest studio album, titled “God Does Like Ugly“, is now available. This follows his previous album, “The Forever Story“, by approximately three years. With 15 tracks, this deeply thoughtful album weaves together various genres, collaborative verses and appearances, and personal narratives to craft a sonically expansive narrative.
Top-tier collaborators are abundant throughout this project, starting right off with Westside Gunn on the dual track titled “YouUgly.” Each rapper performs individually for roughly two minutes on this piece. The third track, “WRK,” is a standalone single that continues the theme established in the previous track “Glory,” emphasizing the rewards of diligence and effort.
Clipse replaces “Community” on the track list, while JID takes charge of “Gz,” track number five – a standout feature – to demonstrate his ability to shine on his own.
In my perspective as a fan, the momentum continues as Vince Staples joins the mix on “VCR.” Right now, it seems like fans can’t get enough of Ciara and EARTHGANG’s collaboration, “Sk8.” Don Toliver offers a more laid-back vibe with “What We On,” which transitions smoothly into Ty Dolla $ign and 6LACK’s ethereal track, “Wholeheartedly.” The diverse talent pool is further showcased by Jessie Reyez, Baby Kia, Mereba, and Pastor Troy, each lending their unique styles to “No Boo,” “On McAfee,” “Of Blue,” and “K-Word” respectively.
Deliberate pauses skillfully connect a series of polished tracks within this collection. Notably, the rapper’s pastor and a member of his team make appearances on the track titled “Glory.
