Jewel Lauds Chappell Roan On Setting Firm Fan Boundaries While Reflecting On Past Stalker Experiences

As a seasoned artist with decades of experience under my belt, I wholeheartedly stand by Chappell Roan‘s stance on setting fan boundaries. The harrowing tales from my past, ranging from being groped in airports to death threats and house burnings, have made me all too familiar with the perils of overzealous fans.

Jewel recently expressed support for Chappell Roan’s views regarding establishing fan boundaries, reflecting upon her unpleasant encounters with stalkers throughout her long career

The singer from Foolish Games expresses appreciation for Roan’s method, as she sets and maintains boundaries with her followers. Recently, the 26-year-old artist behind Red Wine Supernova has spoken out about her anxieties and unease due to fans exhibiting ‘predatory actions.’

For context, Roan has set firm boundaries regarding nonconsensual physical and social interactions with the crowd, especially with those people who creep her out. She wrote on Instagram last month, “For the past 10 years l’ve been going nonstop to build my project and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries.”

The 50-year-old Grammy-nominated artist, Jewel, reiterates that Roan should trust her instincts when such incidents occur. Jewel has openly expressed her support for Roan after she spoke out about being stalked and physically harassed in a video uploaded on September 1st. The Stronger Woman singer stated, “I noticed she had to disable comments due to her recent post discussing being stalked and having people grab you in public isn’t acceptable.” She also praised Roan, saying, “I am proud of what you are doing.”

In the course of her career, Jewel looks back on the painful experiences she encountered as a child and the intense fan behavior that often made her uncomfortable, such as reaching out to touch or hug her. Over time, she learned how to handle fans without feeling overwhelmed. She recalls distressing incidents like being groped in airports and being yelled at by people who felt provoked because she wouldn’t stop for them

I too find it concerning when certain remarks on my Instagram posts suggest to Roan, “If you didn’t choose this career path, you shouldn’t be here.” It’s not right to question his choices like that

At age 21, Jewel experienced a chilling encounter with a stalker that turned terrifying, involving death threats and arson at her house. This, along with other incidents, led her to take a break following the release of her album Spirit in 1998. She expressed, “It was truly frightening. This individual was placing fire bombs outside my home. I was receiving death threats warning that I would be shot from the stage. Throughout my career, I’ve had hundreds of stalkers, and it’s not acceptable. It caused me to step back from my own career. I quit after Spirit, after ‘Hands,’ as it was simply too much.”

Apart from Jewel, Hayley Williams from the band Paramore also stepped forward to criticize the unchecked predatory actions within Chappell Roan’s fan base. She further expressed her gratitude towards Roan for being the one who initially spoke up about the issue
