Jessica Simpson Reacts to Rumors That She Has Started Drinking Alcohol Again After Being Sober for Over 6 Years

As a dedicated follower and admirer of Jessica Simpson, I have been deeply moved by her courageous journey to self-discovery and sobriety. Her story resonates with me on a personal level, as we both share a deep appreciation for family and a commitment to overcoming our struggles.

Jessica Simpson effectively quashed speculation about resuming alcohol consumption by posting a picture on Instagram in honor of her son Ace’s 11th birthday on August 5th. Despite the comment left by one of her followers, who seemingly unrelatedly advised her to stop drinking, she made it clear that the rumors were unfounded.

The vocalist swiftly refuted the assertion, stating: “I haven’t desired or consumed alcohol since October 2017, and it has been one of the best choices I’ve made – not just for me but also for my family.” She continued by expressing her gratitude for the concern, but clarifying that she was misunderstood. Sending love your way,” she concluded. Upon receiving her response, the Instagram user quickly apologized for the baseless assumption.

Since October 2017, Simpson has maintained sobriety following a short battle with substance abuse. Apart from their son Ace, Simpson is also the mother of Maxwell, who is 12 years old, and Birdie, aged 5. These children are shared with her husband Eric Johnson.

As a lifestyle guide, I’ve come to recognize the misconceptions and prejudices surrounding the term ‘alcoholism’ and being labeled as an ‘alcoholic.’ Instead, I choose to embrace my shortcomings, the pain I’ve endured, the fragments of my past, and the times I’ve sabotaged myself. This acceptance is not just a step towards healing, but a crucial part of my personal growth journey.

Simpson has found liberation from harmful emotions and acknowledged that the problem wasn’t alcohol but a lack of self-love and respect within herself. She’s confronted her past struggles honestly, and now carries courage in her heart and strength in her thoughts.

In January 2020, Simpson shared with PEOPLE about her personal experiences in a cover story interview linked to her memoir titled “Open Book.” She revealed that she realized she had hit rock bottom when, on Halloween 2017, she found herself unable to focus and dress her children for the celebration.

In her book, Simpson expressed fear about revealing her state at the time, saying, “I was mortified, admitting I didn’t recognize who helped them dress up for the evening.”

The following day, she confided in her trusted circle of friends who dropped by, expressing that something was amiss and if drinking alcohol was the source of her troubles, she had to completely abstain from it.

She also added that “it was a long, hard emotional journey” — but “there’s just no better gift.”
