Jeremy Runner spoke candidly during an interview, revealing that he didn’t use any filters when discussing the pay disparity he experienced upon being offered for Season 2 of the Hawkeye series. He shared more details about this very issue in his latest conversation.
During conversation with High Performance, it came to light that Renner was initially given half of his salary for the first season of the mentioned Disney+ project.
He said, “They asked me to work on Season 2 and gave me only half the original pay. I responded something like, ‘It will require double the effort for half the payment, and approximately eight months of my time to complete it, which effectively means working for half the compensation.’
The actor implied that the reason for his lower wage offer might be traced back to the serious accident he experienced in 2023.
For those unfamiliar, an actor known for The Hurt Locker was accidentally run over by his Sno-Cat, a large snow-clearing vehicle weighing approximately 14,330 pounds. As a result, he sustained severe injuries such as multiple broken ribs in various locations, a fractured right knee and ankle, a fractured left leg tibia and ankle, among others. According to reports, he was hospitalized for chest trauma and these injuries.
In the vicinity of his house by Lake Tahoe, the actor was trying to assist his nephew out of the snow when unfortunately, his Sno-Cat accidentally ran over him.
In conversation with High Performance, the actor stated, “I’m a bit puzzled. ‘Are you implying I’m just half the Jeremy because of the accident? Perhaps that’s why you’re offering me only half of what I earned during the first season.’
He continued by expressing that it wasn’t Marvel he was referring to, and further clarified, “It’s essentially just Disney, not even truly Disney. It’s more about the cost-cutters, the financial analysts. I advised them to go fly a kite because we fundamentally disagreed on this matter.
The actor expressed his continued affection for the character, stating he’d be eager to play it again. However, he also mentioned needing to protect himself in some way.
Renner stated that he didn’t demand a higher wage, instead, he simply requested fair compensation for his work on the initial season of the series. He noted that it was unfortunate when this request wasn’t met, but he ultimately accepted it.
He said, “I’m content to move past it, as my body likely appreciates the relief, repeatedly, that I’m not engaging in it at the moment. However, we’ll have to wait and see.
For those not familiar, the first season of Hawkeye premiered on Disney+ in November 2021. Alongside Jeremy Renner, this series featured actors like Tony Dalton, Hailee Steinfeld, Florence Pugh, and others.
