Jeremy Renner Claims Disney Offered 1/2 His Initial HAWKEYE Salary for Season 2, And He Said No

Jeremy Renner is no longer shy about discussing Hawkeye matters. In an interview with High Performance, the Marvel Cinematic Universe actor revealed that he didn’t participate in Hawkeye season two because Disney reportedly offered him only half of his salary from the first season. Yes, you read that correctly. It appears unusual and unjustified for a show’s lead actor to receive a pay cut by half. (Credit goes to Variety for bringing this issue to light.)

Renner stated, “They proposed Season 2 and gave me only half the original pay. I thought, ‘It will require double the effort for half the payment, and roughly eight months of my time, essentially, for half the compensation.’

In a subsequent remark, it appears that Renner implies his 2023 snowmobile accident might have influenced the lower offer he alleges. Renner suggests the company may have undervalued him because they thought of him as just half the Jeremy, due to being run over by the machine. However, Renner swiftly defends Marvel, stating the salary disagreement was unrelated to the comic titan. Moreover, he expresses his desire to play Hawkeye again, but only under fair compensation terms, which indeed seems reasonable.

Renner continues:

This isn’t like working with Marvel, to clarify. It’s more akin to Disney, but even that comparison doesn’t fully capture it. They’re more about cost-cutting and accounting. I told them to take a hike when it came to this project… We had different views on it… Regrettably, I still care for the character and would like to reprise the role, but I had to protect myself. I didn’t ask for any additional compensation; I only wanted what I was paid during the first season. Unfortunately, that request wasn’t granted, which is disappointing, but I can let it go because my body might be grateful for the rest, considering the workload. However, who knows what the future holds?

It’s likely that Jeremy Renner will reprise his role as Hawkeye, yet it seems unlikely he’d agree given his claim about Disney offering him less than his prior compensation. As time unfolds, we can only speculate if he’ll return and wish for his recovery.
