As a dedicated follower of Hollywood and its illustrious history, I find it fascinating to delve into the stories behind the scenes, especially when they involve someone like Jeremy Jackson, who rose to fame as Hobie Buchannon on the iconic series Baywatch.
Jeremy Jackson just opened up about his time working alongside David Hasselhoff on the popular action series Baywatch. In its second season, Jackson stepped into the shoes of Hobie Buchannon, a character previously portrayed by Brandon Call during the show’s first run. He recounted the journey that led him to secure the role against numerous well-known contenders, including Leonardo DiCaprio, offering an inside look at the process!
Jeremy Jackson recently attended the premiere of “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” docuseries, where he spoke with US Weekly. During the interview, he shared how he landed the role of Hobie Buchannon. Jackson explained that he discovered much later that Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonathan Brandis, and other child stars were also being considered for the part when he initially auditioned.
The actor stated, “Many child actors around the same age had a similar charming, slightly mysterious, and edgy appearance. However, amidst strong competition, I managed to secure the role. It just so happened to be my lucky break.”
After his role in The Ring of Darkness, the actor looked back on his beginnings, sharing that from childhood, he felt destined to entertain. He’d already been imitating others, dancing, and singing then. Acting, he mentioned, never seemed like work for him. When Baywatch took off, he released an album and embarked on a tour – an experience he called the fulfillment of a cherished dream.
Apart from discussing their professional collaboration, Jackson shared anecdotes about his interactions with David Hasselhoff, who portrayed his on-screen father, Mitch Buchannon. The actor mentioned that while Hasselhoff basked in his stardom, a young and enthusiastic Jackson often tried to catch his attention during filming.
He frequently asked the actor who portrayed Kung Fury to join him for activities such as playing, surfing, or having lunch in his trailer, commenting that Hasselhoff may have felt something like, “Wow, this kid. I’m essentially a 30-year-old man aspiring to be a superstar,” which likely made the actor quite irritable.
Jeremy Jackson, who portrayed Hobie Buchannon for six consecutive seasons on Baywatch, mentioned that although they started off with some contrasting personalities, Hasselhoff ultimately felt more like an older sibling to him. He highlighted the fact that they had a great camaraderie during their shared time on the series.
Meanwhile, After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun docuseries is now streaming on Hulu.
