Jeremy Allen White Says He Would Love to Star in a Rom-Com

Kate Hudson and Jeremy Allen White recently shared their thoughts on film and their careers with Variety magazine.

Hudson described landing the role at age 19 as a dream come true. She’d begun writing music the year before, but working with Cameron Crowe was incredibly inspiring. She said his musical knowledge completely changed her perspective and opened up new possibilities for her.

Hudson asked White if he’d ever be interested in starring in a romantic comedy, and White confessed he would love to try it, saying he’d never done one before but they seemed like a lot of fun. Hudson then explained that rom-coms are actually quite challenging. He noted that they have their own specific requirements and that filmmakers need to consider what the audience wants – they want to be moved and entertained.

White shared his hesitation about selecting a role, explaining he wants to find a character in a timeless romantic comedy—something like “When Harry Met Sally,” not just a fleeting trend. Hudson concurred, calling that film “one of the greats” and pointing out how challenging it is to make a truly good romantic comedy. He emphasized the positive impact the genre can have, saying it “can change your life and bring joy to so many people.”

Recently, White has been starring in the 2025 film Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. This biographical musical drama tells the story of Bruce Springsteen while he was creating his 1982 album, Nebraska.

I’m really excited about this new movie! It’s directed by Scott Cooper and it’s based on a book by Warren Zanes that came out last year – and also draws from Bruce Springsteen’s own autobiography, Born to Run. Plus, the cast is amazing – Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, and Odessa Young are all in it!

The film Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere first premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on August 29th and was released in U.S. theaters on October 24th. While reviews were mixed, critics generally liked the performances by White and Strong. The movie has earned $45 million globally, slightly less than its $55 million production cost.
