Jennifer Lopez Reveals Why She Feels She Was ‘Born to Play’ Ingrid Luna in Her First-Ever Musical Kiss of the Spider Woman

Jennifer Lopez doesn’t shy away from trying out novel ideas in her professional pursuits. It was just announced that she might embark on a new project, marking her debut in a musical film – “Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Lopez discussed her upcoming project during the Los Angeles Times Talks series, sponsored by Chase Sapphire Reserve, which took place at the Sundance Film Festival. Notably, director Bill Condon and Tonatiuh, a co-star of this specific venture, were both in attendance at the event.

Discussing Ingrid Luna’s character, the On The Floor singer voiced her belief that she wasn’t “destined to perform a role” throughout her life, but rather felt that she truly “embodied this sentiment.

She expressed, “To me, love is simply love and people are just people. This idea struck a chord particularly profoundly due to my personal experiences and my own kids. Consequently, I identified with it instantly and felt incredibly enthusiastic about it.

The singer behind “The Love Don’t Cost a Thing” enthusiastically disclosed that it was a fulfillment of her dreams to have the chance to perform songs composed by Fred Ebb and John Kander, alongside Condon.

Years ago, Lopez remembered working on the Selena biopic, which depicted Selena Quintanilla-Perez’s life. However, she didn’t use her own voice for the role; instead, they aimed to utilize the deceased singer’s voice.

Lopez mentioned that she would do some dancing, but the routine wasn’t elaborate. Therefore, this performance could be considered her debut in a musical.

The forthcoming endeavor is said to be a revamp of the Tony Award-winning musical from 1993 and a film with the same title that was released in 1985. In this new venture, Diego Luna will portray Valentin Arregui while Lopez and Tonatiuh are set to play Luis Molina.
