Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos will be teaming up once more, almost thirty years since their collaboration in Selena. Jennifer announced on her Instagram on the 27th of March that Mr. Olmos is now part of her upcoming Netflix romantic comedy titled Office Romance.
As I pen these words, I find myself reflecting on a remarkable journey that’s come full circle – from the days of Selena to where we stand now – and I couldn’t be more excited to share the news! It’s with immense pleasure that I welcome the extraordinary Edward James Olmos to our upcoming production, Office Romance! This post, which has also been shared by Netflix Latinoamérica and Netflix in Spanglish, showcases a side-by-side comparison of us, first from our days on Selena and then on the set of Office Romance. What a thrilling ride it’s been, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
Jennifer Lopez portrayed Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, a renowned Tejano musician, in the 1997 movie biography titled “Selena,” which chronicled her life. Unfortunately, Selena was fatally shot at the age of 23 by Yolanda Saldívar, her fan club president, in March 1995. Eduardo Olmos played Abraham Quintanilla, Selena’s father, in the film.
25 years after Selena’s anniversary in March 2022, Lopez took a moment to reflect on the impact it left. “What an extraordinary day,” she posted on Instagram. “We commemorate and appreciate Selena’s legacy and music today.” She further expressed, “Selena and her family hold such great significance for me, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been selected to portray her. I will never forget this period in my life.
It so happened that Saldívar’s parole was rejected on March 27, exactly on the same day when Lopez made the announcement about Olmos’ role in Office Romance.
In the upcoming movie, Office Romance, Lopez not only takes on the lead role, but she’s also partnering with her experienced manager, Benny Medina, as a producer. This project was initially unveiled by Deadline back in September 2024.
In the upcoming project, Lopez – fresh from Netflix films The Mother and Atlas – will team up with Brett Goldstein, famous for his role in Ted Lasso. Goldstein’s character is described as a charming coworker, igniting a romantic storyline within their workplace setting. As per IMDb, Betty Gilpin, known for her role in Three Women, is also set to appear in the cast.
