Jennifer Lawrence Says There’s One Type of Actor She Avoids Working With

Even Jennifer Lawrence, an Academy Award-winning actress, has certain acting techniques she dislikes. During an interview on the show Hot Ones, the star of No Hard Feelings revealed she feels uneasy about a common method Hollywood actors use to prepare for dramatic roles.

Jennifer Lawrence shared that she feels uneasy working with actors who use the Method acting technique. She explained in an interview, “I would be nervous to work with someone who’s Method [acting].”

She explained how awkward and anxious it would be to deal with a coworker who always stays in character. She admitted she wouldn’t know how to approach them, wondering if she’d be expected to play along, which would make her very nervous.

Method acting continues to be a controversial topic in filmmaking, often dividing actors who fully immerse themselves in a role from those who prefer a more conventional style.

Some actors, including Andrew Garfield and Jeremy Strong, are known for intensely immersing themselves in their characters. However, others, like Brian Cox, who worked with Strong on Succession, have publicly disagreed with this approach.

Jennifer Lawrence shared that her acting approach has changed over time, especially after working with Christian Bale on ‘American Hustle.’ She used to only prepare sporadically, but she noticed Bale would begin getting into character around ten seconds before the cameras started rolling. This inspired her to adopt a more consistent and focused preparation method.

Watching Christian Bale’s focused preparation before each take was a key moment for her, inspiring her to try a similar approach in her own work. “I saw that and thought, ‘That’s a really good idea,’ so I started doing it too,” she explained. The interview also discussed the unique abilities Jennifer Lawrence has learned for her different roles, from useful skills to some quite strange ones.

She playfully shared that she learned lock-picking for the movie Red Sparrow, and although she hasn’t needed the skill since, she thinks it’s a neat ability to have. She also had a memorable experience learning falconry for her role in the historical film Serena.

Jennifer Lawrence is receiving widespread praise for her role in the 2025 psychological thriller, Die My Love, and earned a Golden Globe nomination for it. Many consider the film, co-starring Robert Pattinson, to be her most impressive work since Mother!, and it’s currently available to stream on Mubi.

Jennifer Lawrence has a busy 2026 planned. She’s set to star in a new film directed by Martin Scorsese alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, called What Happens at Night. There’s also talk that she’ll briefly return as Katniss Everdeen in a scene for the upcoming Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is expected in late 2026.

In addition to her acting career, she’s still producing projects through her company, Excellent Cadaver, and is currently working on a new comedy script with Kim Caramele.
