Jennifer Lawrence revealed that working with a particular actor was surprisingly challenging. She shared this experience while discussing her time filming the 2021 Netflix movie Don’t Look Up, where she starred alongside Meryl Streep and Timothée Chalamet.
The movie centers on two astronomers who spot a comet on a collision course with Earth, and their difficult fight to warn those in power about the danger.
Though the film turned into a wild comedy thanks to director Adam McKay, Jennifer Lawrence shared that Jonah Hill, who played the president’s son and Chief-of-Staff Jason Orlean, was the most difficult co-star to work with during filming.
Jennifer Lawrence shared in a 2023 Vanity Fair interview how challenging it was to film scenes with Jonah Hill. She explained that they kept bursting into laughter and ruining takes so often that they even spent an entire day letting Hill improvise insults directed at her, which she found hilarious.
You know, hearing Lawrence talk about working with Jonah Hill was so funny! She said a lot of his lines weren’t even written in the script – he just made them up on the spot! It was so good, apparently, it was hard for everyone to keep a straight face. She mentioned other actors tried to improvise too, but honestly, only Jonah and Meryl Streep were really successful at it. She basically said he’s a comedic genius and nobody could quite match his improv skills!
Even though it wasn’t always easy, Lawrence clearly respects Hill’s comedic skills. She said working alongside such a talented comedian forced her to be quick-witted and authentic, which led to some truly great scenes.
